Funny how easy it is to talk about running the proverbial table, as the Bears have done, before even playing the first of their final four games. It is similarly easy to become giddy over the prospect of a Minnesota Vikings team losing the heart of its defensive line.
The reality is, the Bears must win a very winnable game Sunday at home in, yes, Bears weather, against a listless team from Florida that has lost five of its last six games. If they don't do that, the other stuff will be as moot as their season.
Once again, it appears to be a game set up for Bears rookie running back Matt Forte to run wild. If he's not already exhausted as the hardest- working man in the NFL, Forte could inflict similar damage to that meted out by Houston's Steve Slaton, who rushed for 130 yards on 21 carries, caught two passes for 52 yards and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter Monday night against the Jaguars.
While most opposing quarterbacks have feasted on the Bears' secondary, David Garrard has not made anyone look bad lately. Garrard certainly can run, however, which means it is all the more incumbent for the Bears' defensive line to keep the pressure on.
The Bears can win and should. But how many times have we said that before?
