Vikings running back Adrian Peterson earned another honor Wednesday after his record- setting second season.
Peterson was named the FedEx Ground Player of the Year during a news conference at the Super Bowl in Tampa, Fla. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees earned the Air Player of the Year award. The award was based on fan voting on NFL.com.
FedEx will donate $25,000 in Peterson's honor to the Safe Kids USA chapter in Minneapolis. Safe Kids is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury.
Peterson became the first Vikings player to win the NFL rushing title this season, finishing with 1,760 yards. He also set a team record by rushing for 100-plus yards 10 times and became only the fifth player in NFL history to rush for 3,000 yards in his first two seasons.
Peterson won the FedEx Ground player of the week award three times this season.
